The Material - Hardwood

Durable

Hardwood is strong enough to resist harsh weather and is by far superior to softwood, which should never be used on external doors.  Hardwood bifolds carry long guarantees against warping, shrinking and twisting, and particularly against infestation and some rot.

Traditional

For those who prefer it, or must adhere to strict style guidelines, such as those applying to listed or period properties, hardwood is a good alternative to PVCu or aluminium.  However,  wood effect aluminium can achieve a highly realistic result, particularly if it is to be painted.

Beautiful

Timber bifolds are factory painted for a guaranteed long lasting finish, but they can be left natural with beautiful results.

Environmental Considerations

Sourcing of materials is one of the controversial issues in the construction industry.  Aluminium and PVCu materials are now so durable and so attractive that they are very viable alternatives to timber.  However, we ensure that timber we use is from sustainable environments and we take steps to ensure that this continues.
